Man accused of creating faux bomb risk at Los Angeles-area mall utilizing painted rest room

A painted rest room was left on the Americana by Brand mall in Glendale, California, Thursday, together with a word suggesting it was a bomb — however the risk was faux.

The Glendale Police Department says that Timothy Taratchila, 22, of Burbank, California, is the perpetrator behind the bathroom bomb fake-out. 

The multicolored rest room had been left in a grassy knoll close to an AMC Theatre on the mall, GPD Sgt. Tino Saloomen advised KNBC-TV.



Officers responded to the mall at 8 p.m., discovering the bathroom and the word.

The mall was then evacuated and a bomb staff from the Los Angeles County Sheriff’s Department was referred to as in to evaluate the scene and the purported incendiary rest room.

At 11:04 p.m., the LASD declared the scene secure and the order to evacuate the world was lifted, GPD mentioned.

Mr. Taratchila, accused of creating the faux risk, has been arrested and charged with the alleged offense. In their launch posted on X, regulation enforcement didn’t clarify when or the place Mr. Taratchila was apprehended.

An announcement from mall proprietor and former Los Angeles mayoral candidate Rick Caruso intimates that Mr. Taratchila was discovered that evening close to the scene.

“[A] suspicious item and note were left at The Americana at Brand. … [We] were able to quickly assist the GPD in identifying and locating a suspect who was then arrested. We do not tolerate criminal activity on our properties and will take every step necessary to ensure the safety of our guests, tenants, residents and employees,” Mr. Caruso advised KTLA-TV in a press release.

Further investigation into the incident is ongoing.
