German qualifier Niemeier ousts defending champion Ons Jabeur in 1st spherical of Berlin Open

BERLIN (AP) – German qualifier Jule Niemeier upset defending champion Ons Jabeur 7-6 (4), 6-4 within the first spherical of the Berlin Open on Tuesday.

The One hundred and twentieth-ranked Niemeier saved two set factors at 5-3 down within the opening set, then received the final 4 factors of the tiebreaker. Niemeier broke Jabeur within the first sport of the second set and held on to her result in win in 1 hour, 35 minutes for the 23-year-old’s third victory in opposition to a top-10 participant.

Coco Gauff defeated Czech participant Katerina Siniakov 6-3, 6-4 for the American teenager’s twenty third win of the 12 months.
