Elevated walkway collapses in Texas seashore metropolis, injuring dozens

SURFSIDE BEACH, Texas — Nearly two dozen youngsters from a summer time camp have been injured when an elevated walkway collapsed Thursday in a beachside metropolis in Texas, with 5 flown to the hospital by helicopter.

None of the accidents have been anticipated to be life-threatening, Brazoria County officers stated. The explanation for the walkway collapse in Surfside Beach, a small metropolis on the Gulf of Mexico, about 60 miles (97 kilometers) south of downtown Houston, was underneath investigation.

Surfside Beach Volunteer Fire Department Assistant Chief Justin Mills stated his division responded to an emergency name at 12:34 p.m. and arrange touchdown areas for the medical helicopters.

Six have been taken to native hospitals by ambulance, and about 10 extra have been taken to hospitals by personal autos, Trower stated.

Memorial Hermann officers and Bayou City Fellowship camp officers didn’t instantly reply to messages looking for remark.

Aerial video from TV station KTRK confirmed the walkway seems to be made out of wooden and results in a constructing.
