The D.C. Council has handed an emergency decision to permit metropolis bars to remain open 24 hours a day throughout the Women’s World Cup being held in Australia and New Zealand later this summer time.
The invoice, proposed by At-Large Councilmember Kenyan McDuffie, mirrors an analogous transfer made by metropolis officers in 2022 for the Men’s World Cup held in Qatar.
While bars may keep open to patrons for twenty-four hours if the invoice is signed by the mayor, alcohol gross sales would solely be allowed from 6 a.m. on in the future to 4 a.m. the following day.
Bars planning to increase their authorized working hours can be required to pay a $100 registration payment to the D.C. Alcoholic Beverage and Cannabis Administration and notify the Metropolitan Police Department of their plans to remain open later by July 17.
