Kim Yo Jong, North Korean chief’s highly effective sister, says warplanes repelled U.S. spy airplane

SEOUL, South Korea — The highly effective sister of North Korean chief Kim Jong-un alleged on Monday that the nation’s warplanes repelled a U.S. spy airplane that flew over its unique financial zone and warned of “shocking” penalties if the U.S. continues reconnaissance actions within the space.

The U.S. and South Korean militaries didn’t instantly reply to the feedback by Kim Yo Jong, considered one of her brother’s high international coverage officers, which have been printed in state media Monday night.

Earlier Monday, North Korea’s Defense Ministry issued an announcement accusing the U.S. of flying spy planes into its “inviolable airspace” and warning that approaching plane is likely to be shot down.

South Korea’s Joint Chiefs of Staff responded by denying that the U.S. had flown spy planes into North Korean territory. Spokesperson Lee Sung Joon stated at a briefing that the U.S. was conducting commonplace reconnaissance actions in coordination with South Korea’s army.

Apparently in response to that remark, Kim accused the Joint Chiefs of Staff of performing like a “spokesperson” for the U.S. army and stated the U.S. has been intensifying its reconnaissance actions in a critical infringement of North Korea’s sovereignty and security.

But whereas the North Korean Defense Ministry assertion appeared to suggest an intrusion into the nation’s territorial airspace, Kim accused the U.S. of sending spy planes over the North’s unique financial zone, the world inside 200 nautical miles of its territory the place it controls rights to pure assets.

Kim stated a U.S. spy airplane crossed the japanese sea boundary between the Koreas at round 5 a.m. Monday and carried out reconnaissance actions over the North’s unique financial zone earlier than being chased away by North Korean warplanes. She stated the U.S. plane crossed the japanese sea boundary once more at round 8:50 a.m., prompting North Korea’s army to challenge an unspecified “strong warning” towards the United States.

She stated North Korea would take decisive motion if the U.S. continues to fly reconnaissance planes over her nation’s unique financial zone, however added that it could “not take a direct counteraction” for U.S. reconnaissance actions outdoors of the zone.

“A shocking incident would occur in the long run in the 20-40 kilometer section in which the U.S. spy planes habitually intrude into the sky above the economic water zone” of North Korea, she stated.

Kim’s feedback come at a time of heightened tensions on the Korean Peninsula because the tempo of North Korean weapon exams and U.S.-South Korea joint army workout routines have intensified. North Korea has test-fired almost 100 missiles because the begin of 2022 as Kim Jong-un expands a nuclear arsenal he apparently sees as his strongest assure of survival.
