CINCINNATI — Matt McLain didn’t want to maneuver when the ball left his bat within the sixth inning. Neither did D-backs left fielder Lourdes Gurriel Jr. It took mere seconds for the ball to go from Brandon Pfaadt’s hand on the mound to the primary row of the second-deck bleachers at Great American Ball Park, a projected 404 toes away from residence plate.
Once McLain rounded the bases, he was greeted within the dugout by TJ Friedl, who had hit a house run the prior at-bat. Three pitches later, the pair was joined by Jake Fraley to offer the Reds their first occasion of back-to-back-to-back residence runs this season. The trio represented Cincinnati’s first three runs within the 4-2 win over Arizona to ensure a sequence victory.
It was the primary time the Reds hit three straight residence runs since July 13, 2022, when Kyle Farmer, Mike Moustakas and Stuart Fairchild did so towards Luis Severino at Yankee Stadium.
McLain, who ended the primary half on a hunch, has slashed .429/.478/.857 since July 16 and has a house run in two straight video games after hitting his first profession grand slam on Friday.
In the eighth inning, Friedl, McLain and Fraley had been once more concerned in a scoring menace following Spencer Steer’s leadoff single.
