RAF Typhoon jets intercept Russian bombers flying north of Scotland

RAF Typhoon jets have intercepted Russian bombers flying north of Scotland, the UK authorities has mentioned.

Typhoon fighters had been launched to intercept two Russian long-range maritime patrol bombers as they transited close to the Shetland Islands inside NATO’s northern air policing space, the federal government added.

Minister for the Armed Forces, James Heappey, mentioned: “RAF crews at Lossiemouth maintain a constant watch over UK airspace and are always ready to take action at a moment’s notice to keep our country safe.

“Pilots launched of their Typhoon jets to intercept two Russian long-range bombers this morning, monitoring them as they handed north of the Shetland Islands, able to counter any potential risk to UK territory.”
