Flamengo gamers Gerson and Varela battle throughout coaching session

RIO DE JANEIRO — Another punch-up was reported at Brazilian membership Flamengo, this time between gamers.

Local media reported midfielder Gerson and Uruguayan right-back Guillermo Varela fought throughout Tuesday’s coaching session because the Rio de Janeiro membership struggles to regroup after its Copa Libertadores elimination.

Varela reportedly sustained a damaged nostril.



Flamengo mentioned on its social media channels that “the issue between Gerson and Varela was resolved internally” and added the gamers “understood that such an episode is part of a hard-fought training session.”

The membership didn’t specify if the gamers would face punishment. Neither Gerson nor Varela commented.

On July 30, Flamengo fired assistant coach Pablo Fernández for punching striker Pedro within the face the day earlier than within the dressing room after a 2-1 win towards Atletico Mineiro in a Brazilian championship match. Pedro filed expenses towards Fernández.

Last week, defending Copa Libertadores champion Flamengo was eradicated by Paraguay’s Olimpia after a 3-1 defeat n Asuncion. The Paraguayans superior to the quarterfinals on a 3-2 mixture end result.
