Alexandra Paul: Ex-Olympic determine skater dies aged 31 in automobile crash

A former Olympic determine skater has died aged 31 after a seven-vehicle crash.

Alexandra Paul, 31, was in a automobile along with her child when a lorry collided into them and 5 different autos that have been stopped in a line, Canadian police mentioned.

The crash occurred in Melancthon Township, Ontario, on Tuesday.

Paul was pronounced lifeless however her child was taken to a close-by kids’s hospital to be handled for non-life-threatening accidents.

Paying tribute to her on their Instagram web page, Skate Canada mentioned: “It is with a heavy heart that Skate Canada announces the sudden passing of a cherished member of our skating community, Alexandra Paul.

“A shining star on and off the ice, Alexandra’s dedication, ardour, and noteworthy skills have left an indelible mark on the world of determine skating.

“As we remember Alexandra’s contributions to the sport, we also reflect on the “camaraderie and sportsmanship she exemplified.”

Skate Canada mentioned Paul “was not only an accomplished athlete but also a true role model for aspiring skaters, demonstrating the values of resilience, perseverance, and sportsmanlike conduct”.

It added: “Our thoughts are with Alexandra’s family, friends, and everyone who was fortunate enough to know her during this difficult time.”

Paul and her husband and skating accomplice Mitchell Islam received a number of worldwide medals, claimed three Canadian championship medals and competed on the 2014 Sochi Olympics. She retired in 2016.
