Jimmy Buffett: Sir Elton John leads tributes after singer-songwriter and billionaire businessman dies

Sir Elton John has led tributes to the US singer-songwriter Jimmy Buffett, who died on the age of 76 on Friday.

Buffett, who was catapulted to fame in 1977 with the hit “Margaritaville”, characterised his sound as “drunken Caribbean rock ‘n’ roll” and got here to symbolise a laid-back seashore way of life.

That in flip led to a profitable sideline of outlets, eating places, resorts and a radio station; turning the star right into a billionaire based on Forbes journal.

On Instagram, Sir Elton John mentioned: “Jimmy Buffett was a unique and treasured entertainer. His fans adored him and he never let them down.

“This is the saddest of stories. A stunning man gone method too quickly. Condolences to [his wife] Jane and the household from David [Furnish] and me.”

The star’s loss of life was confirmed on his personal Instagram account.

“Jimmy passed away peacefully on the night of 1 September surrounded by his family, friends, music and dogs,” it mentioned.

“He lived his life like a song till the very last breath and will be missed beyond measure by so many.”

Buffett always retained his trademark laid back style

Buffett was nominated for 2 Grammy Awards, for “Hey Good Lookin'” – a canopy of a Hank Williams music – and “It’s Five O’Clock Somewhere,” a duet with nation celebrity Alan Jackson.

Despite his success he at all times retained his trademark laid-back model. In 2015 he addressed graduating college students on the University of Miami sporting educational robes and flip-flops.

In latest years he had varied movie and TV roles, from “running park visitor with margarita drinks” in Jurassic World to enjoying himself and his doppelganger in Blue Bloods.

The singer is survived by his spouse, Jane Slagsvol, two daughters, Savannah and Sarah, and son, Cameron.
