The D-backs have designated left-hander Madison Bumgarner for task, a supply instructed MLB.com’s Steve Gilbert on Thursday. The membership has not confirmed the transfer.
Bumgarner has gotten off to a sluggish begin to the 2023 season with an 0-3 document and 10.26 ERA. In three-plus seasons since coming over to Arizona in 2020, he compiled a 5.23 ERA over 69 begins.
The three-time World Series champion and former World Series MVP with the Giants was signed by the D-backs to a five-year, $85 million contract after the 2019 season. He is in Year 4 of the deal, and the D-backs owe him $23 million in 2023 and $14 million in 2024.
