Casualty episode breaks TV guidelines over swear phrases on display – as subtitler is ‘disciplined’

An episode of Casualty breached broadcasting guidelines after swear phrases appeared in subtitles earlier than the watershed – although the offensive phrase was not used within the script.

Media watchdog Ofcom acquired a grievance about offensive language within the optionally available subtitles of a repeated episode of the British TV collection, which aired on June 12.

The programme included two cases of the phrase “f*****g” regardless of the present’s audio not utilizing any offensive language.

On Monday, Ofcom dominated the programme had breached its rule that prohibits the “most offensive language on television before the watershed” because it aired at 10.30am on TV channel Drama.

UKTV Media, which holds the licence for Drama, mentioned the episode was “incorrectly subtitled” and apologised for the incident.

It added the subtitling of the present is outsourced to Red Bee Media and the subtitler, who had not adopted protocols, had been “disciplined and withdrawn from subtitling duties until they have been through a thorough retraining process with their line manager”.

The UK regulator mentioned that whereas it took under consideration UKTV had not skilled the difficulty earlier than and took motion to deal with it afterwards, there have been no mitigating elements equivalent to on-air apology.
