Meta’s Threads blocks searches for COVID, vaccine

Meta’s Threads social media platform is obstructing searches for COVID-19 or any pandemic-related inquiries.

The blocking, first observed and reported on Monday, remains to be energetic. When customers search COVID, vaccine, coronavirus or different pandemic-related key phrases, the positioning prompts customers to go to the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention’s web site for additional data.

“The search functionality temporarily doesn’t provide results for keywords that may show potentially sensitive content,” Meta wrote in a press release. “People will be able to search for keywords such as COVID in future updates once we are confident in the quality of the results.”

The firm didn’t specify when the coverage can be rolled again and didn’t present a full checklist of blocked phrases.

The resolution comes because the U.S. is recording an uptick in hospitalization associated to COVID-19.

Threads has launched a number of updates within the weeks since its launch this yr. Despite gathering tens of millions of customers early on, many discovered the positioning bare-bones and never as helpful as Twitter, now X. Recently, Threads added an internet browser model, and customers can search key phrases.
