Chloe Macdermott: Google and Amazon informed to behave after lady’s demise following suicide pact

Google and Amazon should do extra after a British lady made a suicide pact with two individuals she met on-line and used the web to purchase poison, a coroner has mentioned.

Chloe Macdermott, 43, died in May 2021 after shopping for a deadly substance from the US on Amazon.

An inquest at Inner West London Coroner’s Court was informed earlier this month she had “formed an association” with two individuals.

A day later, she contacted them whereas her husband was away and “an agreement was made to act that night”.

Coroner Paul Roger, recording a conclusion of suicide, issued a prevention of future deaths report back to Google and Amazon and mentioned he believes they’ll cease comparable tragedies.

He mentioned it was regarding the discussion board Ms Macdermott used – and others prefer it – “encourage suicide, assist it by provision of information about suicide methods, counsel suicide by providing information about it and thereby potentially facilitate the commission of a criminal offence”.

Mr Roger mentioned: “No age or other restrictions are in place to prevent access to children, vulnerable teenagers and vulnerable adults.

“Posts are made by customers containing particulars of strategies of suicide with none efficient administration to take away such dangerous content material.”

The coroner added that the provision of poison on-line and the actual fact Britons can have it delivered “without effective border and/or custom controls” can also be regarding.
