Colin Burgess: AC/DC unique drummer dies as followers pay tribute

Colin Burgess – the unique drummer of AC/DC – has died aged 77

The band introduced the information on social media, saying Burgess was “our first drummer and a very respected musician”.

“Happy memories, rock in peace Colin,” the group added.

Burgess was drummer for The Masters Apprentices from 1968 to 1972 earlier than transferring to AC/DC in November 1973.

But this partnership was shortlived and ended 4 months later when Burgess was fired for allegedly performing drunk. The group went on to have a succession of various drummers after his departure, whereas Burgess carried out in numerous bands along with his brother, Danny.

In 1998, Burgess was inducted into the Australian ARIA Hall of Fame for his work with Master’s Apprentices.

Fans had been fast to pay tribute to the musician.

“Rest in power, Colin Burgess,” one wrote. “Your thunderous beats paved the way for generations of rockers to come. You’ll always be remembered as the heartbeat of AC/DC’s early years.”

Another added: “Him and Bon are rocking it out in the pearly gates.”

Ronald Belford ‘Bon’ Scott was one of many unique lead vocalists for the group.

Burgess was on the bar the night time Scott, 33, died of alcohol poisoning and was one of many final folks to talk to him.

Scott was changed by Brian Johnson, who stays lead vocalist for the band at present.
