Hollywood A-listers donate tens of millions of {dollars} to actors’ union emergency fund

Some of the most important names in Hollywood are writing monumental checks to the Screen Actors Guild in an effort to bolster the union’s emergency aid fund in the course of the ongoing strike.

In an announcement Wednesday, the union introduced it had raised about $15 million for the fund with the assistance of Hollywood’s greatest stars. The fund goals to supply support to any of the struggling SAG members who’re out on strike.

Actors Ben Affleck, George Clooney, Leonardo DiCaprio, Dwayne Johnson, Jennifer Lopez, Meryl Streep, Oprah Winfrey and others every donated a minimum of $1 million to the strike fund, in keeping with the union.



“We will stand strong together against these powerful corporations who are bent on taking the humanity, the human dignity, even the human out of our profession,”  Ms. Streep stated in an announcement.

The outpouring of help for the putting actors helps the union keep momentum in its labor battle with Hollywood studios and producers. SAG has been on strike since July 14, becoming a member of the picket strains of Writers Guild of America members, who’ve been on strike since early May.

Both unions are searching for comparable contract ensures, together with adjustments to residual funds and updates to rules on synthetic intelligence.

The WGA is about to start negotiations with the studios this week, marking the primary time the union has met with the studios because the strike started.
