Jam Master Jay: Third man charged over 2002 homicide of Run DMC DJ and hip hop pioneer

A 3rd man has been charged in relation to the 2002 homicide of hip hop pioneer Jam Master Jay.

The DJ, who was a member of the highly-influential trio Run DMC, was shot within the head at his recording studio in Queens, New York.

More than 20 years later, federal prosecutors filed a superseding indictment on Tuesday charging Jay Bryant, 49, in relation to the dying.

Two different males, Ronald Washington and Karl Jordan Jr, had beforehand been indicted in August 2020 over the homicide of the artist, whose actual title is Jason Mizell.

Cesar Castro, Bryant’s legal professional, stated: “Securing an indictment in a secret grand jury, applying an extremely low burden of proof, is one thing. Proving it at trial is another matter.”

Bryant, from Queens, was in custody already on unrelated federal drug fees.

At the time the opposite two males have been indicted, authorities stated the musician’s dying concerned a drug deal gone dangerous.

In a letter filed with the courtroom on Tuesday, prosecutors stated Bryant and the 2 different males entered the constructing that night, after which fled after the taking pictures.

They stated Bryant was seen going into the constructing, and his DNA was recovered on the scene.

Jay was in Run DMC with Joseph “Run” Simmons and Darryl “DMC” McDaniel within the early Nineteen Eighties.
