DHS secretary tells Congress he’s ‘not smiling’

Homeland Security Secretary Alejandro Mayorkas wished the general public to know he wasn’t smiling Wednesday as he confronted intense criticism from Republicans over his job efficiency.

One Republican referred to as him the “most dishonest” witness he’d seen. Another GOP lawmaker fumed that Mr. Mayorkas had no solutions for fundamental questions on what’s occurred to terrorism suspects caught on the border, or what’s occurred to the two.1 million unlawful immigrants caught and launched on President Biden’s watch.

When Rep. Victoria Spartz, Indiana Republican, chastised him for smiling by the stonewalling, he’d had sufficient.

“Let me allow the record to reflect I’m not smiling, nor have I smiled,” he demanded.

Mr. Mayorkas appeared earlier than the House Judiciary Committee with the shadow of impeachment hanging over him.

Committees are constructing the case, accusing him of getting lied to Congress and flouted quite a few legal guidelines and court docket rulings as he’s overseen record-shattering ranges of chaos on the southern border.

Mr. Mayorkas brushed apart the complaints, saying he’s doing what he can with the assets he has.

“We are dealing with a completely broken immigration system,” he stated.
