CHICAGO — The Chicago Cubs bolstered their lineup on Monday, reacquiring Jeimer Candelario in a commerce with the Washington Nationals.
Candelario, one of many prime bats in the marketplace forward of Tuesday’s commerce deadline, is batting .258 with 16 homers and 53 RBIs in 99 video games this season. He made his huge league debut with the Cubs in 2016.
The Cubs bought Candelario and money from Washington for minor leaguers DJ Herz and Kevin Made. Herz, an eighth-round choose within the 2019 newbie draft, is 1-1 with a 3.97 ERA in 14 begins for Double-A Tennessee this season. Made, 20, hit .241 with three homers and 25 RBIs in 70 video games for High-A South Bend.
It appeared as if Chicago was going to be a vendor on the commerce deadline as late as July 17, when it misplaced 7-5 to Washington to drop to 43-50. But it responded with a 10-2 stretch to get again into the playoff race.
