Encarnacion-Strand homers in first profession 4-hit recreation, Reds beat Giants 4-1

SAN FRANCISCO — Christian Encarnacion-Strand homered and drove in three runs in his first four-hit recreation within the majors, and the Cincinnati Reds beat the San Francisco Giants 4-1 on Wednesday to keep away from a three-game sweep.

Encarnacion-Strand, a Bay Area native who performed at College Park High School in Pleasant Hill, completed a triple shy of the cycle.

“We really do want to score some runs for him,” supervisor Gabe Kapler stated. “We’ll get him ready for the next time out, try to score some more runs for him then. If he just continues to throw up a lot of zeros, I think he’ll get rewarded for it long-term.”

Casey Schmitt doubled twice and scored the Giants’ lone run.

Cincinnati broke a scoreless tie within the sixth on a double steal. With runners on first and third, Cruz swiped second and Spencer Steer sprinted residence forward of the return throw. Encarnacion-Strand adopted with an RBI single.

The Giants answered with a run within the backside half. With runners on first and third, Cincinnati reliever Ian Gibaut dedicated a throwing error on a pickoff try and first, permitting Schmitt to attain from third.

Encarnacion-Strand supplied some insurance coverage with a two-run homer within the eighth, his fifth of the 12 months.
