Derek Jeter is ready for a return to Yankee Stadium — in a brand new position this time.
The Hall of Fame shortstop will make his first Old-Timers’ Day look on Sept. 9, when the Yankees maintain the seventy fifth version of the annual occasion. While there will likely be no Old-Timers’ Day sport (as was the case in 2022), Jeter joins a star-studded forged of characters.
Jeter is only one of 9 Monument Park inductees — seven of whom have seen their numbers retired by the Yankees — who will likely be collaborating. Mariano Rivera, Jorge Posada and Andy Pettitte will all participate, as will Joe Torre, Ron Guidry, Tino Martinez, Paul O’Neill and Willie Randolph.
Manager Aaron Boone, postseason hero Bucky Dent, 2009 World Series MVP Hideki Matsui and present YES Network broadcasters David Cone and Jeff Nelson will even take part. The widows of Thurman Munson, Whitey Ford, Bobby Murcer and Billy Martin will even be in attendance.
The occasion will function conventional Old-Timers’ Day introductions and a brand new question-and-answer roundtable format during which the particular visitors can share their Yankees reminiscences.
Jeter, who retired after the 2014 season, is ready to make his first Old-Timers’ Day look at age 49. A five-time Gold Glove Award winner and five-time Silver Slugger, Jeter received 5 World Series with the Yankees, together with 2000 World Series MVP honors. He was inducted into the Baseball Hall of Fame in 2020.
