German soccer mourns dying of 15-year-old who died after match brawl

The German soccer federation will maintain a weekend of mourning for the 15-year-old participant who died after a post-match brawl at a world youth match final weekend.

“This incredibly sad and shocking act at a soccer tournament for juniors leaves us speechless,” federation president Bernd Neuendorf stated Thursday. “It is the ultimate challenge to all of us to take a firm stand against violence – in soccer and in society as a whole.”

The participant from JFC Berlin died Wednesday from extreme mind accidents sustained throughout a post-match brawl on Sunday. A 16-year-old participant from a French crew remained in detention in Frankfurt pending additional inquiries.

The sufferer was struck within the head or neck space and collapsed, police stated. They requested for witnesses who might have video of the brawl to come back ahead.

The federation stated a weekend of mourning will start Friday when the German and French groups contesting the Under-17 European Championship last in Budapest, Hungary, will line up collectively behind a banner condemning violence.
