LONDON — Premier League golf equipment have agreed to ban sponsorship from playing firms on the entrance of their shirts, the group stated Thursday.
The league’s 20 golf equipment collectively introduced the choice to voluntarily “reduce gambling advertising.”
It is the primary sports league within the UK to take such a stand, though the choice doesn’t ban playing firms from getting used as sponsors on shirt sleeves.
The transfer was welcomed by the Department for Culture, Media and Sport at a time when the British authorities is reviewing playing laws.
“The vast majority of adults gamble safely but we have to recognise that footballers are role models who have enormous influence on young people,” tradition secretary Lucy Frazer stated Thursday. “We want to work with institutions like the Premier League to do the right thing for young fans.”
Eight Premier League golf equipment presently have playing sponsorship on the entrance of their shirts: Bournemouth, Everton, Leeds, Southampton, West Ham, Fulham, Newcastle and Brentford.
