Korneeva beats Perez Alarcon to win French Open ladies’ title

PARIS (AP) – Third-seeded Alina Korneeva beat No. 6 Lucciana Perez Alarcon 7-6 (4), 6-3 to win the French Open ladies’ title on Saturday and observe up her success on the Australian Open earlier this yr.

The 15-year-old Russian participant dropped just one set on the Grand Slam event as she grew to become the primary lady to win two main titles in a season since 2013, when Ana Konjuh and Belinda Bencic each gained two majors.

Korneeva can be the primary lady to win the primary two majors of the season since Magdalena Maleeva in 1990.
