STUTTGART, Germany (AP) – Frances Tiafoe will contest his first grass-court ultimate after the American participant outlasted Marton Fucsovics in a marathon Stuttgart Open tiebreak on Saturday.
Tiafoe gained their semi-final 6-3, 7-6 (11) after saving six set factors within the tiebreak. He seized his likelihood at 11-10 right down to win the subsequent three factors, sealing victory with a stinging return shot.
“Crazy match, crazy second set, I’m just happy to get through,” he stated. “I wasn’t relaxed in that tiebreak at all.”
Tiafoe is 2-4 in finals. The final time he performed for a title was his win over Tomás Martín Etcheverry on clay in Houston in April.
Hungarian participant Fucsovics got here via qualifying in Stuttgart and upset Tiafoe’s pal and fellow American participant Taylor Fritz within the quarterfinals on Friday. He was bidding to succeed in his first ultimate since 2021.
Tiafoe faces fourth-seeded Polish participant Hubert Hurkacz or Germany’s Jan-Lennard Struff within the ultimate on Sunday.
