NEW YORK — New York City has directed its staff to delete TikTok from their city-issued telephones, becoming a member of the federal authorities and greater than half of U.S. states in banning using the Chinese-owned social media app on government-owned gadgets.
“While social media is great at connecting New Yorkers with one another and the city, we have to ensure we are always using these platforms in a secure manner,” Jonah Allon, a spokesperson for Mayor Eric Adams, mentioned in a press release Thursday.
Allon mentioned town’s high data safety officers decided that TikTok posed a safety risk to town’s technical networks and directed the app’s elimination from city-owned gadgets inside 30 days.
