Judge dismisses lawsuit in search of to take away roadblocks arrange by Wisconsin tribe

MADISON, Wis. — A federal choose on Tuesday dismissed a lawsuit in search of to dam a northern Wisconsin tribe from barricading roads on its reservation, saying the nontribal land homeowners who introduced the motion didn’t have a case below federal regulation.

The Lac du Flambeau Band of Lake Superior Chippewa has been locked in a heated dispute with the city of Lac du Flambeau and 21 nontribal land homeowners since January, when tribal leaders first arrange boundaries on 4 reservation roadways they mentioned have been being illegally used.

U.S. District Judge William Conley in Madison signaled in June that he wouldn’t drive the tribe to take away barricades whereas the lawsuit performed out. In an order issued Tuesday, he dismissed the lawsuit altogether and sided with the tribal council, saying it has sovereign rights over the roadways and {that a} federal court docket doesn’t have the jurisdiction to drive it to maintain the roads open to the general public.

So far, the city has complied.
