New Mexico State Police officer accused of sexually assaulting a feminine officer

LAS VEGAS, N.M. — A New Mexico State Police officer has been arrested for allegedly sexually assaulting a feminine officer final 12 months when he was employed by the Grants Police Department, authorities stated.

Officials stated 30-year-old Isaiah Cheromiah was arrested on the State Police Office in Milan and booked into jail Friday on suspicion of felony sexual contact and giving alcoholic drinks to a minor.

It was unclear Sunday if Cheromiah had a lawyer but who might communicate on his behalf.



State Police stated a 22-year-old lady instructed officers in Gallup that she was sexually assaulted by one other officer.

The lady had been on a two-week New Mexico National Guard deployment in Las Vegas, New Mexico, in July 2022.

She stated Cheromiah was with the Grants Police Department on the time.

The lady stated she and Cheromiah had been hanging out and consuming collectively earlier than she was allegedly sexual assaulted whereas she slept. However, she didn’t report the alleged incident till final month.

Cheromiah was employed by State Police final November as a part of a lateral recruit academy.

After studying of the allegations, State Police positioned Cheromiah on administrative depart and started an inside and felony investigation.

State Police Chief Tim Johnson stated in a press release that he was “deeply disturbed” that one of many company’s officers had been arrested over sexual assault allegations, including, “any breach of public trust is entirely unacceptable.”
