Woman accused of murdering skilled bike owner in Texas tracked her on Strava train app, prosecutors say

A girl charged with murdering an expert bike owner in Texas tracked her actions on the train app Strava earlier than capturing her, prosecutors say.

Kaitlin Armstrong, 35, is charged with murdering Moriah “Mo” Wilson, a 25-year-old elite bike owner who had allegedly been romantically concerned with the identical man as Armstrong.

“The last thing Mo did on this Earth was scream in terror,” prosecutor Rickey Jones mentioned in opening statements at courtroom on Wednesday.

“You’ll hear those screams.”

He alleged Armstrong used Strava to hint Ms Wilson, stopping her automobile close to the house the place she was staying in Austin and capturing her thrice, Sky News’s US accomplice NBC News reported.

Ms Wilson’s physique was discovered with a number of gunshot wounds in May 2022.

Per week later, Armstrong fled the nation with a pretend passport. She was captured at a hostel in Costa Rica in June 2022 and extradited again to the US.

Armstrong was in a relationship with skilled bike owner Colin Strickland for about three years earlier than the couple went on a break, based on an arrest affidavit.

While they have been on a break, Ms Wilson and Mr Strickland had a short relationship earlier than he and Armstrong bought again collectively.

Ms Wilson was visiting Austin for a race on the time of her demise and noticed Mr Strickland on 11 May, 2022, the day she was killed, prosecutors say. He lied to Armstrong about his whereabouts that day, based on a police assertion.

Mr Strickland has not been accused of any wrongdoing within the case.

Armstrong had entry to Mr Strickland’s messages on a laptop computer at their shared residence, based on prosecutors, and she or he may have decided the place Ms Wilson was staying primarily based on knowledge about her bike experience earlier that day posted on Strava.

Bullet casings discovered close to the scene match Armstrong’s handgun and her automobile matches the SUV seen close to the house, prosecutors mentioned.

But the defence lawyer argued Armstrong is trapped in a “nightmare” of circumstantial proof.

“You didn’t hear [from the prosecution] that not one witness saw Kaitlin Armstrong allegedly commit this murder. Not one,” defence lawyer Geoffrey Puryear advised the courtroom. “Because there isn’t one.”

Armstrong has pleaded not responsible. She may withstand 99 years in jail if convicted.

The trial is anticipated to final two weeks.
