FORT PIERRE, S.D. — The South Dakota State Fire Marshal’s Office is investigating a home explosion that killed a child and her grandparents and left two younger kids hospitalized with burns.

The home about 11 miles southwest of Fort Pierre exploded round 10:20 a.m. Wednesday, Stanley County Sheriff Brad Rathbun mentioned.

The sheriff mentioned 6-month-old Harper Hupp and her grandmother, LaDonna Hupp, 61, died on the scene. William Hupp, 66, died at a hospital.

Two boys, 5-year-old Myles and 3-year-old Royce, had been significantly injured and flown to a burn unit at a St. Paul, Minnesota, hospital.

The kids’s dad and mom, Kelsey and Trevor Hupp, had been at work in Pierre on the time of the explosion. LaDonna and William Hupp had been Trevor Hupp’s dad and mom.

Kelsey Hupp mentioned on a Caring Bridge account Thursday that Myles has principally first- and second-degree burns on 10% of his physique and Royce suffered third-degree burns on 25% of his physique on his chest and arms.

The South Dakota State Fire Marshal’s workplace is investigating the reason for the explosion. Rathbun mentioned foul play will not be suspected.
