THE HAGUE, Netherlands (AP) - Appeals courtroom judges in Amsterdam dominated Friday that the Dutch authorities can order Schiphol Airport, considered one of Europe’s busiest aviation hubs, to cut back the variety of flights from 500,000 per 12 months to 460,000.

The Amsterdam Court of Appeal overturned a decrease courtroom that concluded in April the federal government of the Netherlands didn't comply with the proper process when it advised Schiphol final 12 months to chop flights.

The airport, civil aviation organizations and airways that included Dutch flag service KLM challenged the federal government’s order. Friday’s resolution may be appealed to the Dutch Supreme Court.

The Amsterdam appeals courtroom mentioned in a press release Friday that it “attaches considerable weight to the interests of local residents” within the densely populated area the place individuals have complained for years about noise air pollution from the airport.

In a written response, Schiphol mentioned it accepted the ruling and hopes for a brand new aviation visitors order from Dutch authorities “as soon as possible with clear and enforceable environmental limits that provide clarity and perspective for all parties involved.”

The airport mentioned that “the most important thing for us is that Schiphol becomes quieter, cleaner and better.”

KLM mentioned it was “disappointed about the ruling” and learning it.

The service mentioned it could “continue to engage with other stakeholders in seeking the best way to reduce the number of people affected by aircraft noise.”

Schiphol already is trying to handle the difficulty. Earlier this 12 months, the airport introduced plans to section out all flights between midnight and 5 a.m., to ban personal jets and the noisiest planes, and to desert a venture for an extra runway.
