Angus MacNeil's SNP membership has been suspended amid a probe into the MP's determination to not rejoin the get together's Westminster group.

The Western Isles MP introduced on Wednesday he would proceed to take a seat as an unbiased following every week's suspension handed down after a row with the get together's chief whip, Brendan O'Hara.

Mr MacNeil stated his determination was not linked to that incident, and as an alternative criticised the SNP over its independence technique.

He branded the get together "utterly clueless" over its plan and stated the "urgency for independence is absent".

He stated he would solely rejoin following the get together's convention in October if it "is clear that the SNP are pursuing independence".

Following his declaration, Mr MacNeil was contacted by the SNP's nationwide secretary on Wednesday and suggested his determination was reportedly in breach of the get together's code of conduct.

The matter has since been referred to the get together's member conduct committee, with Mr MacNeil's get together membership administratively suspended whereas the committee considers the matter.

Mr MacNeil, who has sat within the House of Commons since 2005, informed Sky News: "I did not leave the SNP and I hope the SNP haven't left me, as that was what went wrong with Labour in Scotland."

An SNP spokesperson stated: "Angus MacNeil MP was advised by the SNP national secretary on Wednesday that she considered him to be in breach of the party's code of conduct by his decision to resign from the SNP Westminster parliamentary group.
