Apax Partners, the personal fairness agency, has known as off talks a couple of £400m bid for Alliance Pharma, the London-listed firm which owns manufacturers together with Forceval vitamin dietary supplements and Nizoral shampoo.
Sky News has learnt that Apax was in discussions till this week about a suggestion for the corporate, which has a market worth of about £320m.
It was unclear on Wednesday why the buyout agency had stepped away from the talks, or whether or not some other suitors have been engaged with Alliance Pharma.
Discussions with Apax are stated to have been beneath approach for a while.
Alliance Pharma holds the rights to roughly 80 client healthcare manufacturers and prescription medicines.
Others in its portfolio embrace Amberen, Hydromol and MacuShield.
In its annual leads to March, the corporate stated buying and selling "had not been as strong as had been anticipated", including that income development had been affected by COVID-19 lockdowns in China.
Alliance Pharma's shares have halved over the last 12 months, and have been buying and selling at round 60.3p on Wednesday afternoon.
The talks have emerged throughout a flurry of takeover bids for London-listed firms, with THG, Dechra and Wood Group all having acquired approaches in current weeks.
Apax and Alliance Pharma each declined to remark.
