The Astros acquired infielder/outfielder Trey Cabbage from the Los Angeles Angels on Wednesday in change for right-hander Carlos Espinosa.
Cabbage, 26, spent his total 2023 season within the Angels system, making the vast majority of his appearances with Triple A Salt Lake. The left-handed hitter -- who ranked because the No. 26 prospect within the Angels' system, per MLB Pipeline -- batted .306 with 25 doubles, 30 house runs, 89 RBIs, 32 stolen bases and a .975 OPS in 107 video games with Salt Lake, incomes MiLB.com Organizational All-Star and Pacific Coast League Post-Season All-Star honors. With Salt Lake, Cabbage appeared at first base (58 video games), proper subject (17 video games), middle subject (4 video games) and left subject (4 video games). He additionally made his Major League debut with the Angels final season and hit .208 with three doubles, a house run and 7 RBI in 22 video games.
The Minnesota Twins initially chosen Cabbage within the fourth spherical of the 2015 MLB Draft from Grainger High School (Rutledge, Tenn.). He has batted .261 with 96 house runs, 345 RBI, 62 stolen bases and an .809 OPS by 567 video games in elements of eight Minor League seasons.
Espinosa, 22, appeared with Low A Fayetteville and the Astros Florida Complex League affiliate in 2023, going a mixed 4-5 with a 4.29 ERA in 15 video games (seven begins). He was initially signed by the Astros as a world free agent from Cuba on Jan. 15, 2022.
To make room on the 40-man roster, the Astros have designated RHP Declan Cronin for task.
