SEOUL, South Korea — Chinese President Xi Jinping is not going to attend the Group of 20 Summit in New Delhi, India, marking the primary time he has skipped the assembly of leaders of the world’s largest economies since turning into China’s prime official in 2013.

The Chinese Foreign Ministry introduced Monday that Premier Li Qiang, not Mr. Xi, will attend the G20, which shall be held Saturday and Sunday.

President Biden stated he was “disappointed” that he wouldn't meet his Chinese counterpart on the G20. But Mr. Biden added, “I am going to get to see him.”

It just isn't clear whether or not that remark referred to the Asia-Pacific Economic Cooperation Leaders’ Meeting, set for San Francisco in November.

The Foreign Ministry didn't say why Mr. Xi, who attended the Aug. 22-24 BRICS Summit in South Africa, was skipping the high-profile assembly in India.

Speculation about his absence has famous territorial tensions between China and host nation India, home points that will require Mr. Xi’s consideration and the concept the Chinese president needs to take part in fewer occasions the place his status just isn't assured.
