The Secret Service detained the driving force of a field truck late Monday after his car collided with safety obstacles alongside a park close to the White House.

The U-Haul truck crashed into the north facet of Lafayette Park at sixteenth Street shortly earlier than 10 p.m., Secret Service spokesman Anthony Guglielmi mentioned.

The crash was a good way from the White House gates, however the incident prompted highway and sidewalk closures, and the close by Hay-Adams Hotel needed to be evacuated.

U.S. Park Police arrested the driving force, who was not instantly recognized, and “preliminary investigation reveals the driver may have intentionally struck the security barriers at Lafayette Square,” Mr. Guglielmi mentioned.
