A mayor within the Atlanta space was arrested on housebreaking and trespassing prices Saturday after he instructed he entered a house that he thought was vacant.

South Fulton Mayor Khalid Kamau was booked within the Fulton County Jail and charged with felony trespass and first-degree housebreaking, based on Fox affiliate WAGA-TV.

He was launched Saturday night after posting an $11,000 bond.

Authorities haven’t stated what led as much as Mr. Kamau’s arrest.

“I just wanted to see the house. I do apologize to the owners. I thought it was abandoned,” the handcuffed mayor instructed WAGA whereas he was being put behind a police automotive.

The property proprietor held Mr. Kamau at gunpoint till police arrived, based on the station, however police haven’t confirmed that element.

“I apologize for the negative attention that this is brought to our city,” Mr. Kamau instructed WAGA. “I hope that the spotlight on our city right now will highlight some of the inequities that have been happening.”

When pressed about whether or not or not he’s responsible of the fees, the mayor instructed the station “I think that’s for the voters to decide.”

The City of South Fulton stated in an announcement that it's “committed to upholding the law and ensuring that all individuals, regardless of their position, are subject to the same fair and just treatment.”

Mr. Kamau took workplace in January 2022.

He tried to sue metropolis council members in July 2022 for violating the Open Records Act. Fellow council members filed a lawsuit that sought to take away him from workplace in March after accusing him of violating the town constitution.
