An Indian authorities official has been suspended after ordering a reservoir to be drained so he might discover his cellphone. 

Food inspector Rajesh Vishwas dropped his Samsung smartphone in Kherkatta dam whereas taking a selfie, The Times of India newspaper reported.

Over three days, greater than two million litres of water have been pumped from the reservoir so he might retrieve it.

The waterlogged cellphone was recovered, however wouldn't swap on.

Mr Vishwas first requested divers to seek for the cellphone, claiming it contained delicate authorities knowledge.

When they might not discover it, he requested for the reservoir to be emptied utilizing diesel pumps.

The water emptied from the dam could be sufficient to irrigate a minimum of 1,500 acres of land, native media reported.

Mr Vishwas informed reporters the water was unusable for irrigation and he had obtained permission from a senior official to empty the reservoir.

Authorities suspended Mr Vishwas after he was broadly criticised for losing water sources.

India is among the world's most water-stressed nations and excessive temperatures have led to extreme water shortage, inflicting crop losses, forest fires and energy cuts.
