ROME — Soccer gamers in Italy shall be banned from carrying No. 88 on their shirts as a part of an initiative combating antisemitism introduced Tuesday.
The No. 88 is a numerical code for “Heil Hitler.”
In March, a fan carrying a Lazio shirt with the identify “Hitlerson” and the No. 88 on it was banned for all times from attending matches of the Roman membership.
The initiative, which is being coordinated between the Italian authorities and the Italian soccer federation, consists of the addition of a code of ethics in accordance with the International Holocaust Remembrance Alliance.
The initiative additionally requires video games to be suspended in case of antisemitic chants or acts - just like the way in which instances of racism are speculated to be dealt with.
Interior Minister Matteo Piantedosi stated the strikes are “an adequate and efficient response to intolerable prejudice that too often arises in our stadiums.”
