BOSTON — A federal decide who ordered American Airlines and JetBlue Airways to finish their Northeast partnership is giving the airways extra time to unwind the deal.

U.S. District Judge Leo Sorokin in Boston mentioned in an order Monday that the injunction he ordered final month will take impact 21 days after he points a last judgment imposing phrases on the airways. It’s not clear when that can be.

The airways had confronted a deadline subsequent weekend, simply 30 days after the decide’s May 19 determination in favor of the U.S. Justice Department, which sued to interrupt up the deal.

In a post-decision submitting Friday, American and JetBlue requested the decide to allow them to maintain some components of their Northeast Alliance, which covers flights in New York and Boston. They need to proceed promoting tickets on one another’s flights, known as code-sharing, and providing reciprocal frequent-flyer advantages.

The Justice Department opposed the airways’ request, though it mentioned the airways must be allowed to honor tickets that they've already offered on one another’s flights to keep away from hurting vacationers.

American Airlines CEO Robert Isom mentioned final month that his Texas-based airline will enchantment the May ruling. New York-based JetBlue has not indicated whether or not it's going to enchantment.
