A mural devoted to murdered journalist Lyra McKee has been vandalised within the US state of Florida.

A swastika, a goal and anti-LGBTQ+ graffiti have been spray-painted on the mural of the Zebra Youth Organisation, which helps LGBTQ+ youth.

Ms McKee died after being hit by a bullet throughout rioting within the Creggan space of Londonderry on 18 April 2019, with dissident republican group the New IRA linked to the killing.

The incident sparked revulsion and condemnation internationally.

A mural was unveiled to Ms McKee in Orlando, a metropolis she spoke about visiting in 2017, a 12 months after a gunman opened fireplace at a homosexual nightclub within the metropolis, killing 49 individuals.

Orlando's council additionally handed a decision providing sympathy of the individuals of town to Ms McKee's family members.

Member of the Florida House of Representatives Anna Vishkaee Eskamani described the graffiti in a social media publish as "absolutely disgusting".

The mural was cleaned up by volunteers with Zebra Youth.

"We appreciate all of the community support and are doing everything to ensure the safety of our youth and staff.

"We won't permit hate to win."

The vandalism comes months after Florida Governor Ron DeSantis signed 4 payments proscribing LGBTQ+ rights within the state.
