SHEFFIELD, England — Police in England arrested a person Tuesday on suspicion of manslaughter within the loss of life of American ice hockey participant Adam Johnson, whose neck was lower by a skate throughout a recreation.
Johnson, 29, was enjoying for the Nottingham Panthers towards the Sheffield Steelers in a Champions Cup recreation Oct. 28 when the blade lower his neck.
South Yorkshire Police didn't identify the suspect or present his age. He was in police custody.
The participant who lower Johnson‘s neck was Matt Petgrave, 31, who performs for Sheffield.
“Our investigation launched immediately following this tragedy and we have been carrying out extensive inquiries ever since to piece together the events which led to the loss of Adam in these unprecedented circumstances,” Detective Chief Superintendent Becs Horsfall stated.
Fans had a second of silence for Johnson on the Steelers subsequent recreation and gave Petgrave a standing ovation.
Johnson was a Minnesota native who appeared in a complete of 13 NHL video games with the Pittsburgh Penguins in 2019 and 2020.
The English Ice Hockey Association, which governs the game beneath the Elite League, reacted to Johnson‘s loss of life by requiring all gamers in England to put on neck guards from the beginning of 2024.
Messages despatched to Johnson’s agent and a good friend of the household in search of remark weren't instantly returned.
