ANNAPOLIS, Md. (AP) — Maryland Rep. Jamie Raskin, a congressman from the suburbs of the nation’s capital, introduced Friday he is not going to run for the U.S. Senate seat that's opening with the retirement of Sen. Ben Cardin.

Raskin, the highest Democrat on the House Oversight and Reform Committee who's in his fourth-term, had been weighing a run for the hardly ever open Senate seat, however stated in an announcement Friday night that he would as an alternative search reelection within the House.

Raskin introduced in April that he had accomplished chemotherapy for diffuse giant B-cell lymphoma with a 90% prognosis of no relapse and that his most cancers was in remission. It was the second time Raskin had been recognized with most cancers. He beforehand battled colorectal most cancers in 2010.

Raskin, 60, performed a number one position lately as House Democrats twice impeached then-President Donald Trump and investigated Trump’s position within the Jan. 6, 2021, rebel. He was the lead impeachment supervisor when the House impeached Trump one week after the assault.
