A mom drowned making an attempt to rescue her younger son as tragedy struck throughout a family-of-five's go to to a well-liked waterfall.

Another son who had jumped in to assist then turned trapped by boulders and needed to be rescued by his father.

The household had been visiting Franconia Falls in New Hampshire on Tuesday afternoon, the US state's fish and sport division mentioned.

Located within the White Mountain National Forest, the picturesque waterfalls are a well-liked mountaineering vacation spot and swimmers can slide off rock slabs into swimming pools of water.

"One of the minor children slipped and fell into one of the pools at the falls," Sergeant Heidi Murphy mentioned.

"He could not get out of the pool as it was a fast, circulating current. The mother jumped into the river to help her child and began to immediately have trouble."

Two different kids jumped into the water to assist their brother and mom.

"They were able to get their brother out of the water, but in doing so, another brother became lodged in the boulders and could not escape," Sgt Murphy mentioned.

At the identical time, the daddy was looking for the mom. He finally discovered her on a rock and instantly started CPR, however she was unable to be revived, Murphy mentioned.

The father then made it over to his son's location and was in a position to pull him to security.
