NICE, France — The Nice public prosecutor’s workplace opened a preliminary investigation Monday focusing on soccer participant Youcef Atal on prices “of defending terrorism” after he shared an antisemitic message on social media.
The prosecutor’s workplace mentioned Atal can also be being investigated for “public incitement to hatred or violence because of a particular religion.”
Atal, who performs for French league membership Nice and the Algeria nationwide crew, apologized after reportedly reposting after which deleting a video by which a Palestinian preacher made an antisemitic assertion.
French Football Federation President Philippe Diallo mentioned Atal had relayed “appeals for violence.” Diallo mentioned in a press release that he “condemns them with the greatest severity” and that the case will probably be dealt with by the federation’s ethics committee.
Writing on Instagram, the defender mentioned he understood that his submit “shocked several people, which was not my intention.”
Atal additionally mentioned he condemns all types of violence, “no matter where in the world.”
