PARIS — Paris has rescinded a particular honor it bestowed on Palestinian President Mahmoud Abbas due to his current antisemitic feedback minimizing the Holocaust.

Paris Mayor Anne Hidalgo revealed a letter Friday saying that “your remarks run counter to universal values and the historical truth of the Holocaust.”

Noting that tens of hundreds of Jews had been rounded up in Paris beneath the Nazi occupation and deported to dying camps, Hidalgo mentioned, “We condemn your comments with the utmost firmness. No cause can justify revisionism and negationism.”

Hidalgo awarded Abbas town’s highest honor, the Grand Bronze of Paris, in 2015 for his efforts towards peace within the Middle East and a two-state resolution.

In a speech final month to senior members of his Fatah motion, Abbas mentioned that Adolf Hitler killed European Jews not due to antisemitism, however due to their “social functions” in society, akin to cash lending.

The United States, Germany and the European Union condemned his feedback and accused him of distorting historical past and selling antisemitic stereotypes.
