A mayoral candidate in Philadelphia has a brand new concept on the right way to resolve the rampant drug downside within the Kensington neighborhood — deliver within the National Guard.

Cherelle Parker, a Democratic former metropolis council member, stated throughout a city corridor occasion Monday that the National Guard “will be a part of the solution” to close down the open-air drug downside that plagues the Democrat-run metropolis.

“Will I call on them to help us, for example, shut down the open-air drug market in Kensington that’s being allowed to prevail? They will be a part of the solution,” Parker stated when a resident requested how she plans to repair the drug downside and if the National Guard could be part of it. “What that looks like, I’m going to have an experienced police commissioner who’s going to define what that plan is.”

She reiterated the optimistic relationship the Guard had with town in 2020 when civil unrest erupted after the dying of George Floyd in Minneapolis and Walter Wallace Jr. in Philadelphia.

Ms. Parker’s city corridor feedback come two weeks earlier than the final election on Nov. 7. She is up in opposition to Republican David Oh for the seat that Democrat Jim Kenney holds. Due to time period limits, he can’t run for a 3rd time period.
