WARSAW, Poland — Russian tennis participant Vera Zvonareva has been banned from getting into Poland, the nation’s Interior Ministry stated. She was to take part in a WTA 250 event in Warsaw beginning Monday.

A communique on the ministry web site stated the Polish Border Guard on Friday prevented entry by the previous world No.2, who flew in from Belgrade on a French visa. She remained within the transit zone of the Warsaw airport and on Saturday flew to Podgorica, Montenegro.

Zvonareva, presently ranked sixtieth, was to participate within the PNB Paribas Warsaw Open event that begins Monday.

The 38-year-old participant was nonetheless on the occasion’s members’ record Sunday. The WTA stated in a press release it was evaluating the state of affairs.

Poland, which helps Ukraine in its battle in opposition to Russia’s aggression, stated that Zvonareva was on a banned record and never allowed into the nation for causes of state and public safety.
