NEW YORK -- Red Sox left-hander Chris Sale will not require surgical procedure for the stress response in his left shoulder blade that he sustained June 1 towards the Reds.

In that recreation, Sale pitched 3 2/3 innings earlier than leaving with shoulder soreness. Sale was transferred from the 15- to the 60-day injured checklist on Friday.

Red Sox supervisor Alex Cora stated he is hopeful Sale will return to the mound this season, which may be no before early August.

“Now we have to reassess the situation in four to five weeks and then see where we are at,” Cora stated. “We always have concerns, but the hope is to go to rehab and pitch at one point this season.”

Sale underwent Tommy John surgical procedure in March 2020 and returned in August of ‘21, making 9 begins in the course of the common season and three within the postseason.

But a sequence of freak accidents -- a stress fracture in his proper rib cage, a damaged left pinkie finger and a damaged proper wrist sustained in a motorcycle accident -- restricted him to 2 begins in 2022.

For the primary time since 2019, Sale arrived at this previous Spring Training with none well being points.

In a five-start run getting into his June 1 outing, Sale went 4-0 with a 2.23 ERA. For the season, he's 5-2 with a 4.58 ERA.
