NEW YORK — Samuel Girard has been cleared to renew practising with the Colorado Avalanche after receiving care from the participant help program.

The NHL and NHL Players’ Association introduced Friday that Girard has entered the follow-up care section of the joint program. He has not but been cleared to renew enjoying in video games.

Girard final month cited anxiousness and despair resulting in alcohol abuse as the rationale for getting into the participant help program. The 25-year-old defenseman beforehand was away from the staff for private causes.

“I have made a proactive decision to take care of my mental health, and will be entering treatment for severe anxiety and depression that has gone untreated for too long and led to alcohol abuse,” Girard stated Nov. 24 in a press release posted by his company, CAA. “I want to express my gratitude to my wife, family, friends, the club, my teammates and the fans for their patience, understanding, and continued support.”
